Equestrian Finishes Second in Central Championships

Manhattan, Kan. - The Baylor equestrian squad, the Central Championships' No. 4 seed, finished second in the two-day, four-team competition at the Fox Creek Farm. After upsetting top-seeded Texas A&M on Saturday, the Bears lost to Oklahoma State, 10-5, in the title match on Sunday. Baylor's western squad kept it close with three wins to the Cowgirls' four triumphs. In Horsemanship, the Bears' edged the Cowgirls, 2-1, when Allison Orosz and Lindsey Tomko claimed points while Nicole McCoy rode to a tie. In addition, Lindsay Douglas narrowly missed a win, losing by just a half point. In Reining, freshman Katie Buss claimed the Bears' lone point with a victory over Rachell Shobe. Hunter Seat competition, normally a strong event for the Bears, managed only two points against the Cowgirls, losing 6-2. Mary Smitson edged OSU's Jaclyn Osterstock by two points to win in Fences while Heather Healy posted a six-point triumph over Charlotte Collingsworth. The Bears will be idle until April 17-19 when Baylor hosts the Varsity Equestrian National Championships at the Heart O' Texas Fair and Rodeo Complex. Central Championships Horsemanship
