Micheal Williams to be Honored as Baylor Legend Saturday
Feb. 15, 2005 Former Baylor basketball standout and NBA guard Micheal Williams will be honored at halftime of the men's basketball game against Texas, Saturday, Feb. 19 at 8 p.m. While at Baylor, Williams was named an All-American in 1988 and still holds the career record for most free throws made at 488. A two-time first-team All-SWC performer, he finished his career as the second-leading scorer in school history with 1,854 points. Williams also holds the school's all-time record for steals (282) and ranks second on its all-time assists list (464). He helped Baylor to an NIT bid in 1986-87 as a junior, then led the Bears to a 23-11 record and the NCAA Tournament as a senior in 1987-88. The NCAA bid was the school's first in some 38 seasons. A second-round pick of the NBA's Detroit Pistons in 1988, Williams played 10 years for five teams including the Pistons (1988-89), the Charlotte Hornets (1989-90), the Indiana Pacers (1990-1992), the Minnesota Timberwolves (1992-96) and the Toronto Raptors (1997-98). The Baylor Legends program is designed to bring former letterwinners back to campus to celebrate their athletic success at Baylor and in their post-college endeavors.Other Baylor Legends who have been honored during the basketball season include Terry Teagle, Jerry Mallet, Lynnell Pyron Pilgrim, Maggie Stinnett and Suzie Snider.
